Award-Winning Writer Joins The Tourism Academy Team

Award-winning journalist Gina Donio has joined The Tourism Academy | tourismacademy.org team as a content editor/creator.

In this capacity, she will be creating, editing and enhancing content for Tourism Academy's audience including efforts to tell stronger stories within course framework.

“I love learning all the details about a destination. Maybe I’ve been to the location before, but there are things I do not know as a general tourist. Now I get to learn all the ins and outs of these different places and share them in the courses. I’m happy to be with Tourism Academy because they provide an invaluable service to DMOs, tourists and destination ambassadors,” Donio said.

Prior to joining The Tourism Academy, Donio has spent 25 years in journalism and communications. During her time as an editor-in-chief, she has fostered collaborative partnerships between content creators, guiding them to deliver information in engaging and entertaining ways. She has extensive experience in print and digital media platforms.

"Compelling stories make for memorable content and educational moments. It's why we're interested in learning more, exploring the world and being a part of something greater than ourselves - to understand, engage with and create new stories. We're are thrilled that Gina has chosen The Tourism Academy | tourismacademy.org as the right place to share her talent and give back to our communities," said Stephen Ekstrom, CEO & Co-Founder.

Donio lives in Hammonton, New Jersey with her husband Gabe and their goldendoodle, Fenway. She enjoys volunteering with various community organizations, reading and listening to 1990s grunge and 1980s pop music. Her dedication to education can be seen in her work with the local education foundation and her participation in a mentoring program with her college alma mater.

She is a lifelong New York Mets fan and we won't hold that against her.

“When we’re traveling, my husband and I love finding new ballparks to visit—whether they are independent league, minor league or major league,” Donio said.
